Brookland Townhouse
When a family of five turns into a family of six, as was the case for the owners of this semi-detached duplex in DC’s Brookland neighborhood, decisions have to be made. Should they stay in their home of seven years, or leave for something larger in the suburbs? Committed to their neighborhood and home, they chose to stay and added a series of rooms that would improve upon their every day living. An existing, if little used, sunroom on the first floor became a den and transitions one to the new screen porch via a four-panel sliding door. A new bedroom sits directly over the porch, with a creative space for the four boys between it and the other existing rooms.
Keeping with a neutral palette, the addition was wrapped in Nakamoto Forestry’s Pika-Pika shou sugi ban siding. All other design elements - windows, screen panels, downspout, decking - were finished to complement it.
